The Nigeria–Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NB-CCI) has taken another significant step in advancing bilateral economic cooperation with a high-level working visit to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

The delegation was led by the President of the Chamber, Alhaji Fatai Adegboyega Shokunbi, and was warmly received by Her Excellency, Ambassador Ibrahim Adeola Mopelola, Nigeria's Ambassador to the Republic of Benin.

The NB-CCI delegation comprised distinguished members of the Board and Secretariat, including H.E. Mrs. Saratou Adeoti Kabassi, 1st Vice President; Mrs. Ngozi Oyewole, Deputy President for Trade Missions and Events; Amb. Nicky Maxwell, Deputy President for Business Development and Partnerships; Mr. Emmanuel Essien, Director-General; and other members of the Chamber's Secretariat.

The visit formed part of the Chamber's strategic stakeholder engagement programme following its recent accreditation and admission into the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA). It was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration with the Embassy in promoting trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

During the meeting, President Alhaji Fatai Adegboyega Shokunbi expressed appreciation to Her Excellency for receiving the delegation and reaffirmed the Chamber's commitment to supporting Nigeria's economic diplomacy objectives through structured private sector engagement. He emphasized that NB-CCI was established to serve as the foremost bilateral platform dedicated exclusively to facilitating trade, investment, and business collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.

The Director-General of the Chamber, Mr. Emmanuel Essien, presented an overview of the Chamber's vision, institutional structure, and ongoing programmes. He highlighted the successful deployment of the Chamber's fully automated digital platform, which provides seamless online membership registration, digital certification, business profiling, subscriptions, and stakeholder engagement.

A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the Chamber's flagship initiative—the Strategic Framework for the Identification, Registration, Development, Integration and Promotion of Nigerian-Owned Businesses in the Republic of Benin (2026–2030). The proposed programme seeks to establish a comprehensive database of Nigerian-owned businesses operating in Benin while creating a structured framework for business development, investment promotion, policy advocacy, and enhanced engagement with the Nigerian business community.

The delegation also discussed practical areas of collaboration with the Embassy, including the identification and registration of Nigerian businesses, promotion of bilateral investments, trade facilitation, business formalization, capacity building, and regular engagement with Nigerian entrepreneurs in Benin Republic. The initiative is expected to strengthen economic diplomacy, improve access to business support services, promote legitimate cross-border trade, and provide reliable data to support policy formulation and investment promotion.

Speaking during the engagement, Her Excellency, Ambassador Ibrahim Adeola Mopelola, commended the establishment of the Nigeria–Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry and congratulated its leadership on the Chamber's successful accreditation by NACCIMA. She acknowledged the strategic importance of the Chamber in strengthening economic relations between Nigeria and Benin and reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to working closely with NB-CCI on initiatives that will benefit Nigerian businesses and deepen bilateral cooperation.

Other members of the delegation also made valuable contributions. H.E. Mrs. Saratou Adeoti Kabassi underscored the importance of sustained institutional collaboration, while Mrs. Ngozi Oyewole highlighted the Chamber's plans to organize trade missions and business forums to expand commercial opportunities. Amb. Nicky Maxwell emphasized the need for strategic partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders to drive long-term economic development and regional integration.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration between the Embassy and NB-CCI through regular consultations and joint initiatives that will support businesses, encourage investment, facilitate trade, and contribute to the economic prosperity of both Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

The visit marks another important milestone in the Chamber's efforts to position itself as the leading bilateral Chamber of Commerce in West Africa, dedicated to promoting private sector growth, regional integration, and sustainable economic development.

As NB-CCI continues to expand its programmes and strategic partnerships, the Chamber remains committed to building a stronger Nigeria–Benin economic corridor and creating lasting opportunities for businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs in both countries.
