Board Strategic Retreat Concludes with Key Resolutions to Strengthen Nigeria–Benin Trade Relations

The Nigeria–Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NBCCI) has successfully concluded its Board Strategic Retreat, held on the 2nd and 3rd March 2026 at FAMS Embassy Suites, Badagry, marking a significant milestone in the institutional take-off and operational alignment of the Chamber.

The retreat brought together founding promoters and board members to deliberate on the governance structure, strategic direction, and operational framework of the Chamber as it prepares to play a leading role in strengthening economic cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

The retreat reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to promoting structured private sector engagement, facilitating cross-border trade, and creating a credible platform for businesses operating along the Nigeria–Benin economic corridor.

Speaking at the retreat, the President of the Chamber, Fatai Adegboyega Shokunbi, emphasized the importance of building a strong bilateral institution that will support trade facilitation, investment partnerships, and policy advocacy for businesses in both countries.

The retreat adopted several key resolutions designed to establish a strong governance and operational framework for the Chamber.

Leadership Structure

The Board confirmed the following Executive Officers with a two-year tenure:

  • President: Alhaji Fatai Adegboyega Shokunbi
  • 1st Vice President: H.E. Madam Saratou Adeoti Kabassi
  • 2nd Vice President: DCG Mohammed Jibo (Rtd.)
  • Treasurer: Mrs. Malika Moumne
  • Director-General: Mr. Emmanuel Essien

The Board also approved the appointment of several Deputy Presidents and Committee Chairpersons to drive the operational activities of the Chamber.

  • Establishment of Standing Committees to support governance and program implementation
  • Adoption of the Five-Year Strategic Plan (2026–2030)
  • Approval of the Membership Framework and Registration Structure
